The Namaz e Janaza of the daughter of Dr. Mohammad Shafique, a leading figure of the Pakistani community in New York was held at Hillside Islamic Center in New Hyde Park on Saturday. She was later laid to rest at George Washington Memorial Cemetary in Long Island.
A large number of community members from the tri-state area attended the Namaz-e-Janaza. Hadiya Shafique, who was in her late 30s, lost battle with Leukemia on Friday evening (Oct 21) when she breathed her last at Memorial Sloan Kettering Center in New York City.
Dr. Mohammad Shafique is one of the literary and activist faces of the New York-based Pakistani community. He is a leading poet and heads a community organization — Freedom Forum. The dentist from Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa’s Karak district and his family had to endure another heart-wrenching loss last October when his only son passed away.
Hadiya Shafique leaves behind her husband, a five-year-old son and a loving family and friends to mourn her irreparable loss.
