The much-awaited Vice Presidential debate is over. And the first reaction on social media and television is unanimous. Mike Pence won the debate. A CNN poll that found 48 percent of those watched the debate, majority of whom were Democrats, thought Mike Pence won the debate as against 42 percent for Tim Kaine.

Twitter was flooded with tweets about the debate. New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof had two interesting tweets that best summed up the debate. In one tweet, Christof said was inaccurate but “politically effective”.

Kristof while agreeing with much of what Kaine said in another tweet gave a more favorable rating Pence, saying:

nick-1

While these very initial polls may have limited impact on Donald Trump’s falling poll numbers, but it will certainly mobilize the Republican base. And not to forget the new emerging reality that Republicans might have found a formidable presidential candidate for 2020 elections in Mike Pence.
