In an effort to provide greater transparency in government, Mayor Bob Buckhorn committed to provide metrics on delivery of city services and to be accountable to citizens based on that performance data. That data is now available online for citizens to review at the performance measurements dashboard at tampagov.net/metrics.

“To govern most efficiently, it’s critical that we have the information and the data to facilitate our decisions. We need to know when the city is performing at its best, and hold ourselves accountable when it’s not,” said Mayor Bob Buckhorn. “Now, the public will have access to much of the same data that drive day to day decisions at City Hall.”

The performance measurement data provides service delivery and quality of life measurements. It effectively serves as a report card on the delivery city services. Data on permitting, public safety response, as well as infrastructure maintenance are included in the new metrics.

Performance measurement in the public sector is an ongoing, systematic approach to improving results through evidence-based decision making and continuous organizational learning.

Since being elected in spring 2011, Mayor Buckhorn has made an effort to make local government more accessible to citizens. In January 2014, the City of Tampa launched its first, free mobile application for Android and iOS based smart phones and tablets (iPhones, iPads, etc.). Under his leadership, the city has also revamped its website and increased communication with citizens over social media.
